It's got a better master for low volumes, and at higher volumes it's just bigger and badder, plain and simple. The PRS also had a mid hump and lost low end at really high volumes, whereas the EVH gets meaner at volume. The comparisons of the DSL to ac/dc and hair metal are kinda spot on. I don't own one but that's how I've perceived the Marshalls I do own. WebDec 5, 2011 · It has been a very long time since I used the 5150 III, but from what I remember and my knowledge of having played JVM's, I would say the JVM can do most of what the EVH can do, with alot more versatility. I found the gain and volume controls to work really well with the JVM at lower volumes. I would go the JVM route personally. WebDec 19, 2024 · An EVH 5150iii and a Marshall DSL are not worlds apart on the distortion side, up to a certain amount of a gain. EVH has WAY more distortion overall (and a much better clean channel). OP: if you want Marshall but more gainy I would go with one of the new Marshall DSL "R" series amps, or more expensively, the JVM.

I like the EVH, but not wowed by it.
